I usually take time to tell the story of my 7th grade History teacher who told us on this date, April 30, 1975, that we students would not forget this date. He had served in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He claimed that this was the first war that America ever lost. (Not quite so, for example, Sandino’ s forced kicked the Americans out of Nicaragua around 1933-34. There were other retreats, too, from occupation of other territories over the years.)
