Use the power of Valentine’s Day to stand up for kids! Make a valentine to urge Congress to move forward gun violence prevention policies. |
Dear Kevin,
What if we could use the power of Valentine’s Day to stand up for kids and get Congress to move gun violence prevention policies forward?
It turns out, we (you) can!
The time is now. Valentine’s Day is the two-month anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary school tragedy where 20 young children were gunned down in their classrooms. [1] The CDC reports that more than 30 people are murdered by guns every day in the United States, which means that in the last two months alone, our country has lost another 1,200 lives to gun violence, including brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, sons, daughters and other loved ones. That’s right, this year we’re getting crafty (with a nifty high-tech edge) for Congress to send an important message.
With our online Valentine Creation Station, in less than one minute you can create a valentine for your Congressperson, which we will deliver in D.C. on Valentine’s Day. That’s right: After the valentines are made online, we’ll personally print and deliver your valentine along with thousands of others to our Senator and Representatives offices in Washington, D.C., making this Valentine’s Day a truly powerful holiday. By filling the halls of Congress with your “homemade” valentines, we’ll make sure our leaders can’t forget about the lives lost and Sandy Hook.
And, we’ll remind Congress what kids really need for Valentine’s Day this year: Safe communities, where they can grow and thrive without fear from gun violence.
Feel free to share the tool with your kids and friends by forwarding this email now: We need everyone’s help to fill the halls of Congress with valentines!

Guns are the 2nd leading cause of death in the United States among children age 1-19. [3] The fact is, our communities — and our children — are not safe from gun violence.
So let’s grab Congress’s attention by filling the halls of Congress with valentines! Let’s virtually wield the all-powerful glue stick and stand up for safer kids in safer communities today.

Dear Kevin,

More than 120 survivors of gun violence and family members of victims are arriving in Washington, DC today. We’re here to meet face-to-face with our members of Congress and share our personal stories.
Call Now http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=ni%2Bd6sGCGdV6YWN5ABFj5jplJgWh%2BUPD
The goal is simple: We want Congress to fix our broken gun laws and save lives. No one else should have to go through the pain and heartbreak we’ve experienced — in Newtown, Aurora, Oak Creek, Tucson, Virginia Tech and in cities and towns across the entire country.
Elected officials listen to their constituents — that’s why we’re here. But our voices are not enough! Your members of Congress need to hear from you!
At the same time we’re sitting down to talk to Senators and Representatives, we need you to flood their offices with calls in support of gun reform.
Please make a call RIGHT NOW and tell your members of Congress to support common sense reforms to end gun violence.
While we’re here in Washington, we’re also going to hand deliver the petition you signed directly to your members of Congress — more than 1.2 million signatures from all 50 states to Demand A Plan to end gun violence.
But we have to keep the pressure on.

The next few days are going to be crucial to changing our gun laws. The NRA sent an action alert to their members on Friday opposing background checks for all gun sales. We need to make sure Congress hears our voices in this debate.
I hope you’ll support our face-to-face meetings in Washington by making a call to your member of Congress TODAY:

Thank you for supporting this historic effort to end gun violence,
