There May Yet be Hope for American Governance this Year!

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) ” wants the full Senate to consider repealing oil and gas” subsidies next month. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is also urging House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to vote on repealing the subsidies.
President Obama’s decision to nominate Leon Panetta to be the next Secretary of Defense may signal steep defense cuts are on the way . While current Secretary Robert Gates has been largely unwilling to rethink the size of the defense budget, Panetta is expected to carry out the president’s goal of cutting $400 billion from defense spending over the next 12 years.

    Dear Kevin,

Big Oil is profiting off the American people to the tune of billions.

We’re paying $4.09 a gallon so BP and ExxonMobil can earn massive profits and keep the mega-bonuses flowing for execs. Yet Senate Republicans still want to shovel huge tax breaks to Big Oil.

Medicare for seniors? Poor women who need prenatal care? Sorry, your funding is on the chopping block. But nobody better touch those Big Oil tax breaks.

Enough! The DSCC is organizing 100,000 Americans to tell Republicans exactly how they feel, and you need to add your voice right away.

Click here to help end Big Oil’s tax deals.

You know BP’s lobbyists are all over Capitol Hill getting Republican senators to support their talking points. The only way we end this nonsense is to organize a massive wave of grassroots anger and energy to end these tax breaks and end them now.

That’s why I need you to take action right away and why I need you to email, tweet, and Facebook with all you’ve got to spread the word. We need to get real big real fast.

I know I can count on you, so click here to get involved. Together, we can end Big Oil’s sweetheart tax giveaways.

I’m fired up about this. The American people have every right to be angry about unchecked corporate greed.

Subject: End government handouts to oil companies

    Dear Friend,

As Americans continue to struggle with outrageous, unstable gas prices, oil companies continue to benefit from them.

But more outrageous than jaw-dropping oil company profits, is the fact that our government actually rewards these companies with even more of our money for maintaining this disastrous system — to the tune of $4 billion a year in tax credits and subsidies.

It’s time for that to end.

Republicans who unanimously voted in March to keep these senseless handouts are starting to feel the pressure. We need to turn it up.

I just signed a petition demanding that congress end oil subsidies. Join me and sign the petition here:
