I pledge to do better. I want more people under the NPP (National Priorities Project) umbrella

Dear Kevin,

Like many of you, I’ve been digesting and reflecting on this very difficult election.  Caught by surprise, I realize the extent to which I live in a bubble that keeps me from understanding a great many of those in this country.

As someone who has been an organizer, an advocate, and now a part of this great organization dedicated to sharing vital information about our federal resources, I need to do better.  I know we cannot walk away from nearly half the electorate because we don’t see eye to eye.  Thinking in terms of “us” and “them” only reinforces what has become a deep and painful polarity.  If we are to bridge the divide, we must be able to reach across it — however uncomfortable that may be at times.

I pledge to do better.  I want more people under the NPP umbrella, and I know it will take time to reach beyond our usual suspects.  But I know the effort is critical and that NPP is the organization to step into this challenge.

Our work is more important as ever. We have the capacity to combat rampant misinformation, to cast a wide net and welcome different perspectives, and even different values and dreams, all while insisting on an atmosphere of mutual respect and safety.

With so much to do, we want to take our first steps together. We hope you will join us on Friday, November 18th from 5-7pm for a facilitated community forum open to our NPP community (location TBA). For more information or to RSVP contact ashley@nationalpriorities.org.

Please mark your calendars and join us for an engaging discussion on the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead. Come with an eye to the future — a future we know will be challenging, but one that together, with your support, we will confront.  Because when the times get tough, NPP gets going.

Join our network on Facebook and Twitter to stay on top of the latest news and analysis from NPP.

On behalf of all of us at NPP,

Nora Ranney, Executive Director
