Practicing the presence of God


I will always sing the praises of your name; day by day I will fulfill my vows.

Ps. 61:8

Brother Lawrence was a 17th century monk in France. He joined the monastery after a spiritual experience while gazing at a tree in midwinter. But try as he might, he wasn’t a good monk. His mind wandered. Then, one day, it occurred to him that he could simply go about his daily chores as if God were there with him and so make his whole life a prayer. “Practicing the presence of God,” he called it.
