Racist in Chief–after Trump!

Jeff Sessions – Racist in Chief?

This week, Jeff Sessions began his nomination hearings.

This is a man who led a failed prosecution of three African Americans for voter fraud, referred to the NAACP as “anti-American” and called a civil rights lawyer a “traitor to his race.”

This is no time for the left to go quiet. Sessions and the other Trump nominees could easily double as Batman villains.

If you think that racists like Jeff Sessions, anti-teacher ideologues like Betsy DeVos and corporate criminals like Rex Tillerson are dangerous and need to be vetted, we need your help.

People’s Action is taking this national. We are on red alert across all our affiliates. We are making thousands of calls and are ready to hit the streets if necessary. We need your help to tell this story.

We know you are tired. We know you are frustrated. But we must be determined and act together. Please donate $10 to support this fight.

    Dear Kevin:
Did you watch Senator Jeff Sessions’s testimony this week? The United States Attorney General is our nation’s chief law enforcer, with enormous responsibilities for defending and vindicating our country’s most cherished constitutional principles. It is not a position to which anyone should be confirmed based simply on Senatorial courtesy. The burden was on Jeff Sessions to prove that he is fit for the job, and he didn’t come close. He is not qualified to be the Attorney General of the United States.

As “the People’s lawyer,” the Attorney General must have a deep commitment to the principles of liberty, equality, and fairness at the Constitution’s core. Any qualified nominee must have a history of respecting substantive fundamental rights, and a demonstrated willingness to respect the Constitution and its values, whatever his or her own policy preferences, or those of the President.

During his confirmation hearing, Senator Sessions failed to meet his burden of demonstrating that he has the required understanding of and respect for the Constitution and its core values, and the necessary fairness and independence to be our nation’s Attorney General. We need to send a clear message to the Senate that Jeff Sessions cannot be trusted with the crucial responsibility of protecting our Constitution and defending our liberties.

Contact your Senators TODAY and tell them they must vote NO on Jeff Sessions for Attorney General.

As we set out in detail in our letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Sessions’s long record of extremism demonstrates that he is not fit to be the Attorney General of the United States and cannot be trusted to execute the mission of the Department of Justice—to “do equal and impartial justice to all its citizens.” His disturbing views, at times defying the fundamental protections written in the text and underscored by the history of the Constitution, demonstrate an unwillingness to respect the rights of all persons as guaranteed by our nation’s charter and run counter to the important mission of the Department of Justice.

Sessions has a long, public record of hostility to the Constitution’s protections of liberty and equality for all, particularly in relation to people of color, women, immigrants, voting rights, LGBTQ rights, and equal access to education, making him unfit to serve as the chief enforcer of our nation’s civil rights laws. He has demonstrated a disrespect for basic constitutional principles of due process and equality, and supports government abuse of power, making him the wrong person to be put in charge of and set priorities for the Department of Justice, which is responsible for critical aspects of our federal criminal justice system and national security. And throughout his career, Sessions has demonstrated a lack of the necessary respect for fundamental constitutional principles to be trusted to serve as a check against any President, let alone the incoming President.

Sessions’s “smooth talk” at his hearing did not counter what his long record demonstrates nor dispel the concerns raised by that record.

Contact your Senators TODAY and tell them they must vote NO on Jeff Sessions for Attorney General.
