As Jesus was getting into the boat, the demon-delivered man begged to go along, but he wouldn’t let him. Jesus said, “Go home to your own people. Tell them your story—what the Master did, how he had mercy on you.” The man went back and began to preach in the Ten Towns area about what Jesus had done for him. He was the talk of the town.
While critics may denounce Christianity as being a form of escapism, there is little evidence of that in the gospels. Instead Jesus keeps redirecting people back to the very problems and situations they want to leave. The demoniac in Mark 5 being a case in point. The man likely thinks, “I want to leave these people! They see me only as a slave to evil.” Jesus’ response: Then your challenge is to show them God’s goodness.
