Tommy Coyle and Barbara Buttrick
She weighed just 7stone and was fed steak and beer to help her “beef up” but that did not stop Barbara Buttrick becoming a world champion boxer.
Standing at a petite 4ft 11ins, Barbara, who was born in Cottingham in 1930, became known as the Mighty Atom during her reign as the world’s unbeaten flyweight and bantamweight between 1950 and 1960.

But she says her biggest challenge was being “a woman in a man’s world”.
Today, she was presented with a plaque at the Tommy Coyle Boxing Academy in Geneva Way, bringing her scrapbook along as a reminder of the legends she has met in her lifetime, including Mike Tyson, Mohammad Ali’s daughter and many more.
