March Madness

During March Madness, cheer for equal pay with AAUW!

The annual college basketball tournament, known as March Madness, kicks off this week. But to AAUW, the real madness is that women and people of color still don’t have equal pay in 2017.

We’re already gearing up to observe Equal Pay Day in just three weeks, so we created March Madness brackets that use gender pay gap statistics to determine the winners of each matchup in the tournament.

It’s no secret that the pay gap exists immediately upon graduation, but how does that gap grow over time? We measured how much the pay gap grows or shrinks for each competing schools’ graduates over a four year span. Of course, we’re rooting for the schools with the lowest pay gap growth!

Check out our brackets below—your alma mater could be our pay gap playoffs champion!

Men’s bracket winner: Princeton University

Women’s bracket winner: University of California

Our brackets serve as a fun way to cheer for equal pay as March Madness begins, but they’re also a good reminder that we still have more work to do to close the gender pay gap. After you check out our brackets, subscribe to the AAUW Action Network to stay updated on AAUW’s efforts to achieve pay equity.
