Bannon may be banned from the National Security Council, but he’s still working for the White House

Dear Kevin,

In a major victory for the security of our nation, Stephen Bannon, Trump advisor and former Breitbart News editor, has been removed from the National Security Council (NSC).

But we have more work to do: Bannon may be gone from the NSC, but he’s still working for the White House.

Please read and share our official statement below.

On Stephen Bannon’s Removal from the National Security Council:
“He Had No Business Being on the NSC in the First Place”

April 5, 2017

Washington, D.C.—On Wednesday, April 5, President Donald Trump removed his advisor Stephen Bannon, a former Breitbart News editor, from the National Security Council. In response, Progressive Congress Action Fund, a 501(c)4 organization dedicated to connecting grassroots organizations and activists with progressive Members of Congress, issued the following statement:

“It is about time that Stephen Bannon was removed from the National Security Council— he
had no business being on the NSC in the first place,” said Dr. Gabriela Lemus, President of Progressive Congress Action Fund. “The NSC oversees vital decisions relating to national security and handles highly sensitive material. Here is a man who has no experience in national security matters or foreign policy who peddles far-right conspiracy theories and espouses white nationalistic views—he should not be privy to top classified information. His appointment to the NSC posed a serious risk to our national security. Furthermore, during his appointment, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the director of national intelligence were only occasional allowed to participate in NSC meetings, despite the meetings’ critical nature and the clear and obvious need for their input and expertise. We are pleased to see that Stephen Bannon is no longer in the NSC; he should not be in the White House, either.”
