“NO!” to the Border Wall today and every day! NO to more taxpayer funds for the wall

Kevin,

As we let you know earlier this week, the 2017 SOA Watch Encuentro will take place November10-12 in Arizona/Sonora! But before that we must continue saying “NO!” to the Border Wall today and every day! NO to more taxpayer funds for the wall, NO to expandingthe detention and deportation machinery, NO to continuing to violate the human rights of migrants and asylum-seekers.

As part of our Spring Days of Action, we are asking you to call your Senators and/or Representative RIGHT NOW to let them know that you demand that they DO NOT SUPPORT Trump’s $3 billion initial request for the uber militarized Border Wall of Hate that damages border communities, treats asylum-seekers as threats to national security, and further feeds the already horrific detention and deportation monster.

  • To find the contact information for your Members of Congress, click here, or call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Senators and/or Representative.
  • Click here for a Call Script developed by our friends at Detention Watch Network (DWN) to use when you call your Members of Congress. DWN is one organization leading the charge against Trump’s destructive border wall/detention/deportation budget request, and they have also has also provided this quick explainer regarding the different congressional timelines, votes, and ways to push back.
  • Call NOW, call every day this week, call next week. A preliminary vote is likely coming up before April 28 on the $3 billion budget request, but this is just the first fight in many that we have to take up to make sure our tax money is not being used to fuel hate and cause pain to our fellow human beings.
  • Check out the other ways that you can participate in the 2017 Spring Days of Action, including supporting the Berta Cáceres Human Rights in Honduras Act-HR 1299, and migrants and asylum-seekers at this link.

We must continue fighting back and standing in solidarity with our communities in every way that we can – in the U.S., at the border, and in Latin America.

We also urge you to participate in this online action in support of Marylen Serna Salinas, a Colombian social movement leader who has spoken at the SOAW Vigil, and other female leaders in Colombia that are facing threats. On Friday, April 7, a friend of Marylen’s was kidnapped by armed men, forcibly put in a car, hit, injected with an unknown substance in the right arm, and then tortured and questioned about Marylen’s activities. When she refused to provide information, she was tied down, abused, and then left in a remote location. Speak out against this abduction, and threats to female social movement leaders in Colombia by sending a letter to the US State Department Colombia Desk and the US Embassy in Colombia Human Rights Officer alerting them to your concern about the threats and attacks against human rights defenders in Colombia. Thank you!
