Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and he divided the two fish among them all. And all ate and were filled; and they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and the fish.
Jesus saw the hunger of the people – not just hungry for lunch but more likely malnourished from many missed meals. Compassion stirred him to action. He fed 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish. In the hands of Jesus, that was enough to satiate the deep hunger of the crowd and have 12 baskets of leftovers. One lesson of the loaves is that where Jesus is, there is compassion and abundance.
