Out of Oppression

Out of Oppression

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.

Isaiah 61:1

This week, we’ll explore the trajectory of liberation illustrated in Isaiah 61 which shows us how the oppressed become the most powerful liberators in our midst. Jesus’ first public declaration proclaims good news for the poor—calling the oppressed into liberation, from self-hatred to an all embracing love, from addiction to sobriety, from hopeless despair to powerful examples of freedom. Bearing witness to oppression allows us to recognize the dark corners of our own oppressed hearts. Amidst the suffering of the oppressed is how we experience Divine light—the experience of God’s glory in the form of humanity.
