Health activist Pete Garcia wanted to boost access to physical activity options for at-risk residents in San Antonio (68% Latino). So he helped develop the “Fitness in the Park” program to offer free fitness classes in city parks. The program has expanded citywide.

Irma Rivera saw a child nearly hit by a car in park-poor Santa Ana, Calif (78% Latino). She and other moms went to nonprofit Latino Health Access for help. Through teamwork, the moms and the group got land and money to build the area’s first-ever public park.
