This week, celebrations around our country will erupt with fireworks and BBQs as Americans celebrate their independence – our freedom.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
Because the LORD has anointed me
To bring good news to the afflicted;
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to captives
And freedom to prisoners…

Isaiah 61:1

This week, celebrations around our country will erupt with fireworks and BBQs as Americans celebrate their independence – our freedom. And while we have much to be grateful for in the ‘Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave,’ we’d be remiss to ignore the stark fact that while the United States has less than five percent of the world’s population, we have almost 25% of the world’s prison population – despite crime rates being the lowest in decades.
