Two outstanding employees were honored this week by the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education as Employees of the Month for October. Congratulations to Joe Walker, cafeteria manager at Rosedale Middle and Julie Fletcher, teacher at Earl Watson, Jr. Early Childhood Center. The following are excerpts from their nominations:

The Step-Up Grant Provides Learning Opportunities for Educators, Students and Community

The school district’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Department is pleased to announce they are the recipient of the Step-Up Grant to provide continuing education for ESL instructional aides, early literacy intervention programs, graduate coursework for teachers and a language academy for those who would like to learn English.

Board of Education Meeting Highlights

At their regular meeting on October 24, 2017, the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education:

  • Participated in the Parents as Teachers family fall festival meet and greet
  • Accepted design updates for bond projects

Student athletes from Sumner Academy were visited by representatives of Good Sports, a company who provides athletic equipment to young athletes, and Kansas City Chiefs Ambassadors with NFL Play 60. They donated athletic equipment, discussed the value of athletics in a healthy lifestyle and ran through practice football drills.
