Who is the Landlord? Who is the Needy? How do you live your life?

People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives. Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.

Proverbs 16:2-3

How authentically have you lived? How transparent are your motives? A man came to the door of a woman living in an apartment building and told her about a family in the building that was about to get kicked out. The man went on to say that the family’s lights were about to get cut off and that he was asking people in the building who could help. She said yes and gave him some money, but before he left she asked, “Who are you?” The man replied, “I’m the landlord.” Though his motive seemed sincere he was really after getting his rent paid. The scripture says we often believe that our own motives are pure, but the Lord examines them. There are a lot, more than we want to admit as Christ followers, of camouflaged motives having people claiming to do this for Christ and to do this in Jesus’ name when it is all smoke-in-mirrors. What God desires is that our actions be brought before God so that God can cut away from our plans that which is not pure, that which is not going to show God off! God desires to fulfill the desires in our hearts if our hearts are offered to God to be examined in order that our motives will be pure!
