July 29, 2020Dear Kevin, Thank you for contacting me regarding the impeachment of Attorney General Barr. I appreciate the time and effort you took to share your perspectives with me on this issue. Your input helps me stay informed on the issues most important to Missourians.Attorney General Barr—whom I voted to confirm to his position—has consistently followed the letter of the law while using sound discretion. As you may know, Article I of the U.S. Constitution gives the House of Representatives the sole power to initiate the impeachment process. The Senate’s constitutional responsibility in the impeachment process is to try the impeachments. As your U.S. Senator, I take my oversight responsibility over the Executive Branch very seriously. It is critical that the American people be able to trust the Department of Justice (DOJ) and all other Federal agencies. I will be sure to keep your views in mind as I exercise my constitutional oversight responsibilities, including at any oversight hearings involving the Department of Justice. As always, I truly appreciate hearing your concerns. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future on other issues important to you and your community. It is a privilege to be your voice in Congress. If you would like to get regular updates on my work in the Senate, please visit my website at www.hawley.senate.gov or follow me on social media at @SenHawleyPress. Sincerely, Josh Hawley United States Senator |
